Welcome to my online education portfolio. Please use the tabs above to access specific information about my teaching history.  Feel free to contact me any time at herbie.brock@gmail.com. You can also call or text me outside of school hours at 859-200-3258.

Below is a brief overview of my qualifications all in one place. Pretty much everything mentioned below is elaborated upon via their own pages (linked above) with much greater detail.

Resume - Here is a digital copy of my updated resume and here is a digital copy of my cover letter.

Classroom Tour - I am a student-centered teacher who creates a fun and inclusive learning environment. Students can't learn if they are uncomfortable, so I make sure to set up my classroom with their best interests in mind.

About Me - I am married to a great wife, Courtney Brock who is a 4-H agent. We don't have kids; just an old orange cat named Doc. We spend our time either working with one another's students after school and on the weekends or traveling as much of the world as possible.

Advanced Placement - I have been teaching AP World History since 2009 and I have been an AP Exam reader for College Board since 2015. I've worked to pilot three AP courses at two schools and I am currently teaching AP US History, AP World History: Modern, and AP US Government and Politics. The AP program at our school has significantly increased rigor and student success for students at every level in high school.

TLP (Teaching and Learning Pathway) - TLP is a state-wide initiative from the KDE to retain great young people in the teaching field. I have been lucky enough to start that pathway at RCHS and I am already seeing young people consider teaching and even a few have changed their intended majors.

Extracurriculars - This is a list of all the extracurricular activities I've been a part of at the high, middle, and elementary school levels.

Academic Team - Academic Team can best be described as Jeopardy!, but team-based. It is special event for so many young gifted students and it builds confidence, teamwork, and responsibility. At RCHS, our Academic Team-along with the AP program-filled in a lot of gaps left by our over-stretched GT department. My teams have been very successful over the years and I am proud to say that we won the state Quick Recall championship in Pikeville and we won the first-ever regional championships for RCMS and RCHS.

Ed Rising - I've worked to create a robust Educators Rising (a national future teacher club) chapter at RCHS. The group does works with area and regional elementary schools to provide programming and materials for under-served elementary students. In 2022, our chapter had the largest delegation at the state conference and also took home the most state-level awards of any school in the state.

Reference Letters - Letters of reference from my superintendent, principals, Berea College department chair, former students and coworkers can be found at this page.

Student Travel - I've organized and facilitated student trips to Italy and the Dominican Republic in the past and I look forward to sharing my love of travel with my students even more in the future. My wife and I have traveled to seventeen countries and we're always looking for number eighteen!

Awards and Recognition - This page contains copies of awards I've received in the past including the Daughters of the American Revolution State Teacher of the Year Award and the induction certificate for the KAAC Governor's Cup Hall of Fame.

Multimedia - The Multimedia page includes a few short videos from over my career.

Community Service - This page elaborates on my mission of service and how it pertains to Educators Rising and Academic Team. Both of these organizations have become an integral part of our school community with service to the district and school-children around the world as our top priority.

Documents - The Documents page contains scans of my degrees, certification, Praxis scores, and transcripts.

Berea College (EDS 186) - This page contains details on Inquiry into Social Studies Essentials, a Berea College course that I piloted in 2022. The course was designed to enrich the content knowledge of education majors and non-majors alike in a setting that fosters creativity and intrigue.

EKU (SED 104) - Introduction to Special Education is a required course for education majors and numerous other majors at Eastern Kentucky University. In 2017, I piloted it as a dual credit course for juniors and seniors at RCHS in hopes of convincing as many students as possible to consider a job in education. Since then, the course has done just that and sparked a new pathway at our school, the Teaching and Learning Pathway (discussed above).
